a comprehensive summary of my montreal weekend trip
This last weekend my friends and I did our first girls trip to Montreal! In a bid for me not to forget literally everything that happened, I'm going to summarize the weekends events here to immortalize them before they go too far back in my mind.
Friday:
- Got on the train 6:30, arrived 12 ish
- The train stopped in the middle of nowhere for thirty minutes but everyone on the train was asleep so I felt like I was literally in the twilight zone, freaky
- As soon as we got there we left our bags at the hotel, went to get dumplings at petit poisson which was DELICIOUS! And cheap!
- Came back, got into our room
- Friends wanted to use the hotel pool but I didn't bring a swimsuit, so I went on a walk around the surrounding neighbourhood to kill a few hours before we started to get ready for the night, popped in a few shops but didn't find anything
- Came back, got my clubbing outfit ON! Black dress with grey ruffles, all gold jewelry, knee high black leather boots
- Left around 7:30 and went to bar champs, we saw a fundraiser live reading of the script of 10 things I hate about you, where you could buy the actors shots
- I bought a shot for the narrator, she was a drag queen named Augusta Wind, she deserved a shot for the name alone
- After it ended we stayed to play pool and moved over to barbossa
- We got there pretty soon after they opened so we got in for free, had a few shots and some cocktails to start the night, we started the dance floor B)
- Danced for a few hours, nothing too crazy had a lot of fun
- Around midnight we decided to move over to bar datcha, it was more jampacked than barbossa but had slightly worse clientelle, great music though
- some creep started humping my friend so we checked out, got an uber home around 2ish. Otherwise great night!
Saturday:
- Got up and left with 2 of my friends around 10 am, got breakfast at allo mon coco, I got an eggs benny of some kind I can recall, we brought a crepe back to my friend who slept in at the hotel
- After she had a few bites to eat we ventured back out to the art museum, saw some really nice art, didn't look through the entire complex but we saw enough
- after we finished there, we hopped on the subway and went to the saint laurent strip, did a looot of thrifting
- I didn't really have much luck until we ran into this weekend sale of vintage and designer things for decent prices, I got a really beautiful 90s canadian designer archival piece for a pretty damn good price. The shirt is wool though so I have to wait until fall to wear it, it's packed away for school though!
- After we'd tired ourselves out enough, we went back home to change, we left the hotel around 9:30 ish I want to say? Got some wine at the convenience store to pregame
- We started at bar champs again as they had a girlie pop dance night, the floor was pretty dead though unfortunately, it was a fun starter though
- We hopped over to barbossa and it was BUMPIN. We got a few shots to keep the buzz going, and when I write this I mean it: I RULED the dance floor that night.
- My friends and I were at the front of the floor, and the DJ added supermodel by rupaul into the mix, and literally no one recognized it?? So we lowkey performed it for the crowd, honestly one of the best moments of my life
- Met a tobey mcguire lookalike that was crazy
- Honestly just danced the night away, chatted and danced with strangers, life was truly good
- Left around 3, 2 of my friends were hammered I was pretty ok as well as my other friend
- We left the hotel room (me and unhammered friend) and broke into the Concordia campus, well, they left the grey nuns building unlocked which was stupid
- explored their philosophy department, then went back and slept
Sunday:
- We all agreed to have a day to ourselves and reconvene for the evening
- I left the earliest out of everyone, I took the subway to greektown around 10 am
- Visited the church, donated and lit a candle, sat in for a little bit
- I only brought shorts on the trip, so I got a few glares by the old ladies but what can you do
- Subwayed to Jean-Talon station, my friend met me at that point to join me on my thrifting adventure, and we stumbled upon jean-talon market, got some smoothies and debriefed for a bit about the trip
- She split off to meet her friend, and I decided to walk through all of little italy and little portugal, popping into little shops as I went
- Every single bar in little portugal was packed out to the street with people watching the euro-cup, which was really nice to see considering that portugal wasn't even in the cup!
- Found a greek cafe and got an iced latte, sat down to have it since I'd broken 20k steps at that point
- Found some beautiful pieces I'm very excited about!
- Ended up walking through the pedestrian only stretch on the way to the subway, was super nice to walk on the road
- Checked one more vintage store down by the Notre Dame as it was on the same subway line as our hotel
- Heading back around 5 pm, I missed our stop so I had to get off at the next
- Doing that, I accidentally stumbled upon the canadian centre for architecture! How crazy is that!
- They were closing in an hour so they just let me in for free, it was really small so I did the walk through pretty quick
- Ended up getting a book of interviews with japanese and malaysian architects in the bookstore that I've slowly been reading
- Went back to the hotel, relaxed for a sec and met up with my friends
- Got an italian dinner it was REALLY good
- Got ready and went out again, unfortunately literally every bar was filled with people watching the game which is stupid considering it happened like 12 hours prior???
- We ended up yelling 'SPAIN WON' in bars and then running away to entertain ourselves instead of dancing
- Went home after messing around at like 1:30 ish?
Monday:
- One friend left early as her dad got her tickets to the Chili Peppers concert without realizing that she was in Montreal, so it was just 3 of us for the last day
- Packed up the room and left our luggage at the hotel
- Got breakfast at the crew collective, a pre wwi bank turned cafe, it was really beautiful inside
- Kept walking around old montreal after, just exploring the streets
- Ended up getting smoothies and sat in a little park for a bit, went to the historical gardens beside it after
- went up to the mont-royal walking stretch again after, went to st. viateur bagels to finally get our montreal bagel fix
- hung out for a bit, then headed back to the hotel
- got to the train station around 6 ish?
- I got my friends hooked on gossip girl on the train ride back >:)
So that's my trip! Had a lot of fun, and it was my first trip as an adult, or rather a post-graduate. First of many!
