new years resolutions
- to continue the habits that i've grown this year:
- to continue playing piano (I've started ballade no.1 by chopin today, hopefully that lasts).
- to finish my current sketchbook, hopefully by the end of my first year. this stays in line with my goal to keep experimenting with art, especially in the realm of collage and found object.
- to continue writing here on bear blog (and I may be thinking of migrating/beginning substack? though i do really enjoy the community here)
- to submit my writing and art to publications, mostly local magazines. I submitted my writing to one already, and the feeling was exhilarating! hopefully the work is received well!
- to pay more attention to my consumption habits, that being what material things I'm bringing in and out of my life. I've previously had a knack for bringing random trinkets and clothes into my spaces that I don't really use and especially don't need, and have been working to break those "gathering" mindsets.
- I've already stopped buying things first-hand if I can help it (save things you simply need to buy new, like underwear, or shower goods). I now need to really consider what things I need not only to live my life, but to enjoy my life. I'm by no means a minimalist, and never will be, but the (literal) weight of having simply too much stuff cannot be ignored. Another consideration is the lifetime and environmental impact of my material possessions. Would I rather have 5 acrylic but trendy sweaters, or one woolen or cashmere sweater that is a bit less flashy, but will last me my lifetime?
- To adventure more, whether it be literally travelling, seeing new people, finding a new nook of my city, I want to expand more! I refuse to say no to new things (within reason of course).
- goals with this would be to feel more of a sense of familiarity with my university town. I hate to feel as though I'm don't know every inch of the place I live in, and while the way I know my hometown will never be replicated, I sure can try there.
