new zine issue!

cm8

Today, I finally got around to binding my newest issue of my per-zine, con moto! This is the eighth one so far, and one of my new favourites.

I find that when school and other obligations encroach further and further on my life, I can get absorbed to the deficit of my creative side. I had grandiose plans for a February issue that got washed away in the tide of studio (the contents of which I will not share in service to future issues..), but I got a certain spark for this one that pushed me into the zine making mindset almost instantly.

One fateful night a few weeks ago, the song Sun King by the Beatles re-entered my life in a wildly different circumstance from when it first appeared.

I first listened to the song in June of 2018, on an overnight class trip to a summer camp. Off of my smuggled iPhone in the wee hours of the morning, I played the only tracks I had downloaded in the data-less land. Abbey Road was on constant repeat every night in the top bunk of that dingy cabin bunk bed, every other girl in the room fast asleep. At the time, I had an immense fascination with 80s music thanks to the influence of my parents that was slowly slipping further and further back in time, and to a 12 year old mind (and honestly still to this 19 year old's mind), the album, especially Sun King, was plain revolutionary.

Fast forward some 8 years, in yet another dingy bed, this time a dorm bed. I'm trading favourite songs back and forth with with someone who's been in my life nearly as long as Sun King has. We're both facing up at my ceiling, my eyes closed and mouthing along to the words, floating away to that cricket-chirping heaven of summers from ages ago, theirs wide open, staring into the staticky popcorn abyss, only illuminated by the artificial sun of my desk lamp. It was a funny thing to transfer the life-changing impact of a song from one person to another.

This zine is a collection of moments like that, of songs and their tiebacks. Reach out if you'd like a copy or want to trade!
