photos, colour, life in pictures!!

I went on a mini Bear Blog rabbit hole this afternoon, the discoveries of which may be most likened to when the cavemen discovered fire.

I read Diel's recent post about feeling stagnated in her current stage of life. Out of curiosity, I peeked through her blog a little, and found her photo gallery (gorgeous photos btw!), and adored the little photo cubes. Finally, she linked the gallery code back to Robert Birming, a classic Bear Blogger that I'm sure most of us have read on here before.

Aaaall this to say, I finally can put photos on here! In case you can't tell, I know next to nothing about coding. I think the most customization I've done for this blog has been making the background a slight off-white, and changing my font to Baskerville, a personal favourite. How lovely is it to be able to just copy and paste some code and suddenly have a whole new medium to share?

What I've been doing these last few weeks instead of writing (Feb-Now):

  1. Went thrifting with a hometown friend in my university town. What an absolute cuckoo bananas store. I ended up finding this little chainmail pouch thing that you tie to yourself with suede string. According to the store owner it was a viking accessory? Happy to represent.

  2. Got some pho with my friend from my all-time favourite spot, Pho Hung, when I was back home for the break. I wrote about it back in the day in this post. This place has been my catch-up dinner, my family dinner, date dinner, sit alone and write dinner, anything, everything, all of the above spot for as long as I can remember. Doesn't get better than this, especially with some very lovely company.

  3. Prior to going back home, I visited my hometown friend in her university... no use in calling it a town. Metropolis. As a massive Seinfeld fan, she can attest that when we were walking around late night after a good catch-up cafe hang, I damn near fell to my knees running into the fateful diner, all aglow as if it knew I was coming, and certainly not because it's like that every night. What a serendipitous moment this was.

  4. This is a recent one, and a delicious one indeed. I went out with my friends, and we managed to catch the end of the Blue Jays game. I'm grateful that one of my closest friends in this city is also a Toronto native, and a Jays fan to boot. Our poor other friend was left basically alone so to speak with the nachos as our eyes were glued to the game. We won, naturally!

  5. In a grand feat of touring my friend, we went to a touristy indoor market spot. I had never been on the mezzanine level, where we found quite the peculiar.. paper-mache ish sculpture hanging down? I just thought it was quite interesting.

I sense that being able to tie visuals to the simplicities that I want to write about will give me a lot more motivation to blog more again. I've been on the outs with this little page for the last little while, no doubt because of the utter suffocation of the academics and otherwise. Funnily though, I found that when I was in the pure hell phase of studio that settles in around this time last year, I was writing, writing, writing. Granted, more in my journal than my blog, but it was the thought that counted.

That's the tough part about bouncing between forms of expression. I'd write much more about things like con moto, or other artistic pursuits, if I could simply show the work without having to link to my instagram or other means of sharing. Now I've got the method down! Maybe I'll start sharing my backlog of visual work on here now. Yay!
