slow sunday morning xiii
Listening to Forevernevermore by Moodymann and my funk, motown, groove playlist.
Good morning, good afternoon (good evening, and goodnight). I'm writing from my bed, but contrary to previous entries, I haven't just woken up. I had an exam earlier today which wrested me out of my sanctuary. Got it done, had a little breakfast, made some coffee, and now I'm back to ground zero. It's 1:10pm, and it's a cloudy day. I'm watching the trees just barely start to bud outside my window. I'll only have this view for 3 more days, and then never again. A bittersweet goodbye to a very good room.

This is where I've been writing from, by the way, sans the pillow that I prop up against the wall so all of my postcards are visible.
Believe it or not, the postcard wall was much smaller back in September. Slowly but surely, it grew by virtue of my travels, some lovely mail treats, and a sincere dedication to hunting for ephemera wherever I find myself. Whichever postcards didn't fit right on this wall have found homes on my bulletin boards, door, or other areas fit for little pieces of art.
Some of my favourites include (and see if you can spot them):
- The giant baby face at the bottom, situated right over my head while I sleep. This baby has caused great alarm in almost everyone who has seen it, which causes me great joy.
- The cat paintings by Maude Lewis on the right side. I got them in Halifax when visiting my best friend, and I get reminded of that lovely weekend we had together every time I look at them.
- Reason Over Passion by Joyce Wieland, a Toronto artist and one of my greatest inspirations creatively (and life-wise, she was so cool). I first got this postcard in the National Gallery of Ottawa, however I didn't actually see the quilt in person until a year later, when the AGO held an exhibition for her. That might've been one of the greatest days of my life, I couldn't tear my eyes away.
- A postcard from Veronique on the left side. There's only a few postcards on this wall that actually have messages on the other side, this one being one of them. Sometimes I pull them off the wall and read them back to keep me chugging.
It'll be a long while until I live in one room for longer than 4 months at a time. This causes some annoyances in terms of mailing things, as well as the fact that my postcards won't have a permanent home. I'm trying to conjure up a good way to store them or keep them on display somehow until I settle in a place for a while again. Who knows when that will be. The transient life is a fun one yet a hectic one. I hope everyone is enjoying the slow crescendo into spring!
