someday i'll learn how websites work...

I've been debating on and off whether to finally take the plunge and pay for my own domain on Bear Blog. What really draws me in is that sweet sweet capability of posting photos along with posts. That would certainly streamline things way more for me, and allow me to show my art on this platform, which is a major part of me that I feel doesn't quite work as well only through words.

In order to try to dip my toes into the Mariana Trench of website design (at least it looks like that sitting at the pier), I thought I should figure out how to modify and play with my website without spending any money first. I wrote to Ava asking for her advice on where to start, and she gave me some wonderful advice. She told me to start messing around with different variables that are already on the site and see what they do.

I landed on my font. I like the default typewriter in the Bear themes, but to tell the truth, I was starting to get a little bit bored of it. I think I can achieve that 'just sitting at my desk and writing away on my click-clacky word processor to no-one, oh the eighties la di da' energy without the font to go along with it. Everything else was too confusing for my analog mind. Changing the font it is!

I chose Baskerville, one of my personal favourites. This is only because Helvetica Neue is my number one favourite, and I googled which serif fonts tie together well with Helvetica Neue. Two basic fonts, two famous fonts, two fonts I love!

So goodbye Typewriter, hello Baskerville!

For those who only blog for personal fun and have taken the plunge of paying for your domain, would you say it's worth it for you? I'd love some insight.
