the saleswoman

Today, I sold my zines for the first time at my university art market. This was a huge departure from my normal method of trading or simply gifting my zines, and it was a very peculiar, but also very nice experience for me?

The peculiar part was that it's a very tough thing to sell work that is a little slice of yourself in every sense of the word. My zines, as any perzine will be, describe lots of intimate moments, stories, and thoughts from my life, sometimes even complete with baby pictures. Pure documentation. So then the selling point is what? Read all about me me me?

The nice part was how much my friends and peers actually supported me and my work, many that I didn't expect! Sometimes I forget that in choosing a creative degree, I will be surrounded by creative people that value the same aesthetics and ideas as me. Even better, I'm surrounded by people that are curious as to what differing values there are amongst all of us.

To all of my friends who have gotten their first con moto or other zine today, I hope you enjoy it, and I hope it inspires you to get a little more vulnerable with yourself in turn! These zines are like my personal encyclopedia of sorts, and you'd be surprised on how nice those are to have. To all of my friends who are longtime con moto enjoyers, thank you for continuing to support me, even when I charge you for it, haha!

As I always do, shameless plug. If you're curious about my zines, take a look at my instagram! If you want to hold one in your hands rather than in binary form, reach out and we can arrange a trade or otherwise fair deal, internationally!
